My sister in law recently got married. She returned from her honeymoon to find out that a few of the checks that she received on her wedding day had bounced. Do you let the guests know the check has bounced? Would you still send them a thank you?
Response:
Thank you for your question. I hate answering questions like this one, because the answer is not in the couple's favor. Wedding gifts are never a requirement of wedding guests. Gift giving is always an optional kind gesture and tradition. If a guest gives a toaster that blows up the first time you plug it in, you would still be doing the right thing in sending them a thank you card. It really is the thought that counts. A check that bounces whether it be a mere over-sight in account balancing, or a sorry excuse for the appearance of gift giving, should be treated just like any other gift (faulty, or not). In short, I advise that your sister-in-law and her husband do not say anything about the checks. They should also send a thank you card regardless. Thank you for looking out for your sister-in-law, and being as thoughtful as you clearly are.
