Formal Attire Evening Wear for Weddings
Bride:
Long white, off-white or cream color (brides choice) gown with train, veil, matching shoes (fabric of gown and shoes match), gloves optional
Groom:
Black tailcoat, black trousers, white pique waistcoat, starched-bosom shirt, wing collar, white bow tie, white gloves, black silk socks, black patent leather shoes, pumps, or black kid smooth-toe shoes.
Bride’s Attendants:
Dresses are either long or designed according to the current style, usually long dresses with matching shoes, gloves optional (bride decides)
Groom’s Attendants:
Black tailcoat, black trousers, white pique waistcoat, starched-bosom shirt, wing collar, white bow tie, white gloves, black silk socks, black patent leather shoes, pumps, or black kid smooth-toe shoes.
Mothers:
Long evening or dinner dresses, dressy short cocktail dresses are permissible. With long dress, veil or hair ornament is optional. With short dress, small hat is optional. Gloves are optional. Have mothers discuss preferable color options to wear to harmonize with the wedding party and each other.
Fathers:
Black tailcoat, black trousers, white pique waistcoat, starched-bosom shirt, wing collar, white bow tie, white gloves, black silk socks, black patent leather shoes, pumps, or black kid smooth-toe shoes.
Women Guests:
Depending on local custom, long or short dresses. If long, veil or hair ornament is optional otherwise hats are acceptable. Gloves are optional.
Men Guests:
If women wear long dresses or invitation indicates "black-tie," men should wear tuxedos. If women wear short dresses, they wear dark suits.
