At some point in the not to distant future you will both need to sit down and discuss the financial implications of your marriage. Here are some obvious considerations:
Real estate, mortgage and home financing/refinancing New family finances, stocks, commercial banking, investing Health insurance, life insurance, property insurance Major appliances, home furnishings Automotive, moving needs Travel
Make an appointment with an insurance professional and discuss the kinds and amount of coverage you need considering your new situation. Will you be having children, or are there additional children now you're a combined family? You should at least insure yourselves against the premature death of each other.
Discuss with employers changes you may need to make with your medical plans. It may now make sense to combine your policies. You may want to increase your disability policy.
What about the house you live in? Do you need to increase your asset insurance now you have combined assets?
Whatever you do, don't put this important task off! If a tragedy was to happen, and unfortunately tragedies happen to people every day, not being well prepared would only compound it. Consider too, that in such a situation you are less likely to make wise and clear decisions considering the pressure and stress you may be under. Plan today for a better future.
