The Unity Candle
The unity candle symoblizes the families of the bride and groom coming together to form one new family. Traditionally, the mothers of the bride and groom light the taper candles (representing each of their families) and the bride and groom, with the taper candles, light one large pillar candle together (representing the new family that is being created), as two lives joined as one.
For centuries, candles have been an important part of the wedding in many cultures adding that special ambience to the event. Candles also make ideal centerpieces and create effective mood lighting during the reception.
