You need to be flexible when including children as your attendants. Choose them carefully, make sure to include them in the rehearsal. Be sure to provide or arrange baby-sitters and sit their parents on the aisle at the reception. If nerves get the better of them, allow them to back out, but be sure to reward them for their important role in your wedding.
Junior Bridesmaids - Girls aged 8-14 can walk in the procession, but not in the receiving line. They may attend rehearsal and showers.
Junior Ushers - Boys aged 10 and 14. They dress like the ushers and walk in the procession. They may place the pew ribbons.
Flower Girl
Traditionally between 3 to 7 years of age.
Attends rehearsal but does not have to attend rehearsal dinner. Be available for photos. Carries a basket of petals, a nosegay or pomander. She walks directly in front of the bride throwing petals. This symbolizes a beautiful path ahead. Her parents should pay for her attire. Walks with the ring bearer down the aisle. In front of in processional, and directly behind in the recessional.
Ring Bearer
Traditionally between 3 to 7 years of age.
Should wear attire that compliments flowergirl. Carry a small pillow with faux rings tied to the pillows ribbons. Walks behind the flower girl in processional, and in front of her during recessional.
Train Bearers / Pages
In the event of a formal wedding two children may carry the train down the aisle. You need to invite the parents of the train bearers also.
Candle Lighters
If you wish to have candle lighters, choose children form either family who will light the candles just before the mother of the bride is seated by the usher/groomsmen
