Choosing the music and/or musicians for your wedding can be an intimidating process. After all, as a layperson, how can you discuss composers and classical works with a professional musician?
Here are some questions to keep in mind when you are discussing your wedding music with the entertainers.
Are you and members of your group professional musicians?
What kind of experience have you? (It's not a good idea to trust your special day to inexperienced students.)
Do the members of your group regularly play together?(Not a good idea to book musicians who may be convening for the first time at your ceremony.)
Do you have a demo CD or videotape you can send to me? (If the group isn't able or willing to invest in promotional materials to give away, they may not be serious about the business.)
Can you make recommendations about musical selections or suggest some pieces to listen to?
At this point, if you are satisfied with the answers so far, you can ask about the rates and date availability.
What are your fees? Do you charge by the hour or by the event? Do you charge extra for weddings outside the city core?
What financial arrangements do you require?
Will you send a contract?
Do you require a deposit? Is it refundable? If so, under what circumstances?
Once you have satisfied yourself that you have found the right music and musicians, you should book them as soon as possible, especially if you're planning a summer wedding. Summer Saturdays are few and the best musical groups get booked up early.
