My (Jen's) birthday was coming up on the 5th and Brec told me to not plan anything. Surprisingly, the night before, my older brother, Mark, drove up from Houston just to have dinner with me as a pre-birthday event (of course Brec was in on that, too). Friday, Brec picked me up from the apt to take me to lunch. He told me then that he had taken the rest of the day off. Following lunch he took me to Waterloo to buy 2 new CD's. Then he dropped me off at Daya Spa for a 2 hour massage with stones- amazing. Unknown to me he had put up my mom, brother, Chris, and his girlfriend, Summer, and his mom, Karen, in the Embassy Suites for the night, under the guise of "surprise birthday"! During my massage, he had a secret lunch with my mom and asked for "her blessing". Then he picked me up from the spa at 4:30 and took me for a super deluxe manicure/pedicure. We returned home to dress up and headed to Cafe Josie for dinner (my favorite restaurant). Afterwards Brec suggested we swing by the Stephen F Austin Hotel bar for a quick drink. Upon entering the SFA hotel, I went to the ladies' room, during which time our friend,Sam, had corralled everyone on the balcony. When I got into the bar, however, I noticed work friends, Nora and Devrah. Then about 40 people emerged from the balcony in a resounding "Happy Birthday", including some of my family and his mom. I was so surprised!! Later, Brec asked our friend, Larkin, to tell the bar to lower the music and took me to the front of the bar so we could "thank everyone for coming". It wasn't until he relayed a story of trying to find sentimental jewelry for me (since I had said 1 week prior that I like "sentimental jewelry") that I got flush. Then he dropped to his knee and my mind started swimming and the crowd started cheering. YES!!! He outdid himself again. Being 29 never felt so good! |
